In the beginning, this tribe resided in Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. They practiced the nomadic way of life in an effort to ensure that they were not involved in fighting. This means that they only got to establish temporary shelters as they were nomads. The not fully grown trees were used to establish a framework upon which the house would be based on, while the barks were used to hold the thick grass that was cut from the fields. The thick grass was used to cover the sides plus also the roof and its main use in addition to providing privacy was to help with the conservation of heat in the shelter.
There was no difference between the way that these people dressed compared to the way that other Indian natives wore. It is through hunting, fishing and farming of the fields that this tribe got to survive. The search for food in the forests was carried out by the men while the women in the clan were left behind to carry out farming and also look after their homes. The main crop that they planted and harvested was corn even though there were others such as squash.
These people only got to cut their hair when they were heading for a fight and that is also the only time that they got to wipe their face paint. Among the many ethnic groups that did not like being associated with war apart from when their families have been attacked, the Piqua Shawnee ranks at the top as they loved to coexist peacefully and vacated once this was compromised. They loved their heritage and this explains why they wanted to keep their bloodline pure, not wanting to intermarry with other natives, even other Indian native groups.
After they were done with their duties, kids were mobilized to gather around their parents or other older people in their clan to be educated more on their cultural practices. It is the education that they received in addition to being made to recognize themselves as the most looked up people that have facilitated the holding on to their culture up to now. When it came to their leadership, there was a hierarchy that had to be followed in that issued had to first be taken to the least powerful leader and then follow succession until they reached the most powerful leader, in case no solution had been found.
Of essence is that individuals should take their time to learn more about the Piqua Shawnee people. It is undeniable that these people have immensely contributed in the world of history and hence the need for people to know more about them. On several occasions annually, these people plan get-together so that they can know how everyone is doing. Their own festivities help them to stay united always.
